Time Capsule 🕰️

MYSL has been along time in the making. As we continue to learn and grow, let us take a step back to appreciate how far we have come. Thank you to everyone who supported us along the way!

With gratitude,

The MYSL Team

Sprouting & Microgreens Workshop 🌱

April 21, 2022

Although MYSL has not been officially launched, we still hosted a sprouting & microgreens workshop! We saved and packed tulsi, dill, and much more!

Official Launch 🚀

September 2, 2022

On this day the MYSL Team held a seed saving demonstration, seed giveaway, and accepted official donations for the first time!

A big thanks to volunteers that helped pack the seeds (orange envelopes on the table).

Watercolour Making Workshop 🎨

September 16, 2022

Members of Youth In Action and MYSL made their own watercolour paints using natural pigments from calendula, amaranth, beets, spinach, turmeric, and red cabbage. We added PH modifiers like baking soda, vinegar, and dish soap to change the colour of the paints.

Did you know? These paints change colour over time!

Winter Care Packages for Seniors ❄️

December 2, 9, 2022

As a token of the holidays we made care packages for seniors at Holland Christian Senior Homes. The care packages included handmade items made from natural, reusable, and recyclable material. The packages consisted of fun activities, winter decorations, and heartwarming cards.

Shout out to all the high school volunteers!

Seed Saving & Sprouting Workshop 🌻

February 10, 2023

The MYSL Team, along with some volunteers, organized a workshop for processing seeds, packing seeds, and container gardening. This was to help prepare seeds to share with the community and help volunteers learn another way on how to grow food.

Do you know what seed is in the picture?

Seed Paper & Seed Ball Workshop 🫘

February 24, 2023

The purpose of this workshop was to teach participants how to make seed paper and seed bombs. Participants learned how to reuse GOOS (good on one side) paper and other scrap papers and make them into growable seeds.

Did you know? These can be used as simple gifts and encourage recycling and reusing materials rather than having more waste.

Student Seed Ball Workshop 🧑‍🏫

March 31, 2023

Students from Cooksville Creek Public School’s Eco-Club made seed balls to take home! Most of the students were eager to get their hands messy and making this eco-craft! For the students, the seed balls “feel like playdough.”

Shout out to the teachers for reaching out!

Bradley Museum Exhibition 🏠

April 27, 2023

Bradley Museum launched a new exhibition made by students at the University of Toronto. At the launch, there was an eco-friendly market where MYSL held a seed ball making and seed giveaway booth. This is also where we launched a new concept, surprise seeds, for the very first time! It was a big hit!

Ecobuzz 🐝

May 4, 2023

Peel Environmental Youth Alliance (PEYA) invited MYSL to host a workshop at their Ecobuzz conference. We hosted a workshop on seed ball making! We engaged with students and teachers all of Peel for a day to learn about climate action at the University of Toronto Mississauga Campus.

Guess who is in the picture? Marynil!

Blooms & Berries Festival 🍓

June 17, 2023

Blooms & Berries is an outdoor market at the Benares Historic House. MYSL sold plant clippings, sprouts, seed balls, and had a mini watercolour painting workshop! And we cannot have MYSL without giving away free seeds!

Peep the photobomber (far right)!

Sprout Circus 🎪

April, May, June 2023

Cooksmart hosted an event called Sprout Circus. This event is meant for students in elementary school to learn about food literacy and healthy eating. MYSL hosted seed ball making sessions. Many students learned about how to take care of plants and even got to throw some seed balls (sshh ~ don’t tell)!

Erin Mills Farmers Market 🧑‍🌾

July, August 2023

MYSL sold watercolour paintings and seed balls. We also gave away free seeds to members of the general public.

Ecobuzz 🐝

February 23, 2024

PEYA invited MYSL to host another workshop. This year’s theme was Bridging the Green Divide: Inclusive Environmentalism for All! The MYSL Team hosted a workshop called Seeds of Change: The Role of Youth in the Local Food Movement. We helped students brainstorm their own seed library and watched them envision what their growing gardens would look like. We also played a real or fake seed game - which was a big hit!

To Be Continued…
