To us, highlighting that we are youth-led matters because many other well-known environmental organisations in the community are led by non-youth. This aids our efforts to encourage more youth to get involved in work and initiatives that directly affect their communities, leading to more personal and appropriate responses.
The Mississauga Youth Seed Library (MYSL or M.Y. Seed Library) is a youth-led library based in the City of Mississauga. MYSL aims to put youth at the forefront of the food revolution in our city, as well as foster learning and acceptance in our community. Our team consists of BIPOC youth which allows us to diversify the voices, lenses, and experiences in the local food system.

Our intention with MYSL was to bridge people of all skill levels and walks of life. Many view starting a garden as a daunting move, but MYSL is here as a first step. We try to support everyone, whether they are a beginner or expert, to ensure that growing and saving seeds is enjoyable and as simple as possible.
The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted many gaps in our system, notably access to food and general public health. This led to a growing interest with people growing their own food, in a means to reconnect with nature, improve their health, save money, and combat climate change.
